Topis #1

Why are databases so important for research?  That is one question that has can been asked by any college student.  It can only be answered in many ways.  One way to answer this question is simple.  Databases are useful to students because it helps them search for information that the school library has.
Another way to answer this question is by saying that a database is something that contains many ways to find information that you need for a class or homework.  Databases are very important because not only to the tell you what is in the library but they also can show other libraries that contains information you might need from other libraries.  Databases also contain other links to websites that contains information.  All these different sites are very useful to to students.  With a new day comes new information hat is posted to help students.

NCAA

Does the NCAA need to rethink their decisions on how to handle players that go to the NBA?  Is a one and done year okay for students in school that are in big conferences?  Now these days it is rare that a elite player stays in school.  Usually these 18 year old players go to school for one year then they inter the NBA drat and leave their schools.  Take last years Kentucky team, all five starters and a few  bench players left to go pro and left that program with no real leadership.  The team had over 30 wins last season and wont be able to reach that number this year unless they win 10 in a row.
I think that the NCAA need to at least come up with a rule like it has in football.  In football you are able to turn pro after your junior season.  If they did that in basketball I believe that you will see better teams evolve and a more competitive aspect of the game.  It might even help the smaller schools get better players.

My Methods

There are many way to keep yourself organized.  My methods that I use to keep myself organize are time management, a calender, and a planner.  Time management is very important to me.  When I pledged for Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia the most important thing to remember to organize your time wisely.  With out time management I would have fallen apart that semester and not know what to do.  It helped me become a better person also because it is something that we will all need to use in life when we go out into the "real world" and become true adults and have jobs.
Planners are useful for students and other teachers.  In my case planners help me manage my time more properly.  With a planner I can write down what all I am doing for the day because they usually brakes it down hour by hour.  Finally with a calender I can keep track with what BIG important events that happen through the month.  With all three of these items I have become well organized and can manage everyday like properly.

To Organize

What does organizing mean?  Well to mean organize means to have all priorities straight and to have everything you are trying to full fill in order.  Organizing is very important in everything I do.  Without it I would be lost and not know what to do.  Its a combination of learning time management, studying, and many other aspects that we all use in our daily lives.
To organize also teaches how to arrange things in you life.  It also teaches you about management and how to work.  But a main definition of organize means to put together into an orderly, functional, structured whole.  So to organize has many different meaning to everyone but we can all believe that it is important when we do anything.

Not Enough?????

Whats the world coming to when a top athlete decides to not sign a extension with his teams because he says "it's not about the years...it's about the money!" ?   Is he being greedy or ignorant?  What does the future hold for him now?
As we have herd St. Louis Cardinals first basemen Albert Pujols has ended his negotiations with the team for a contract extension that goes beyond the year because they weren't willing to offer him "top 5" player money, instead the Cardinals offered him a "top 10" player size contract.  When your already a top payed player and have enough money to last a lifetime does 5-10 million dollars a year really matter?    Where will he be next year?? Some people think that he will not resign with St. Louis in the off-season which makes some people think that he will become a Chicago Cub just to take revenge on the Cardinals.
The future is unwritten and we will see what unfolds as the season progresses.  In everyone's opinion is Albert Pujols being greedy or ignorant here?

"Don't Settle for What is Handy"

Do we always go with the first topic we see on the internet?  Do we actually take the time to look though the rest of the links provided to us when we search for information?  What is handy information?
All of these questions are useful when asking if you use the handy information or if you go deeper into your search and look for better information.   First off if we just look at the first few links that come up when we search for something then there is no reason to continue the search because we feel like we have what we want already.  To me "handy" information is the easy information what we look for.  Truth of the matter is that sometimes what we are rally looking for does not appear on the first page or two of a search, it would appear later on a few pages in.  Handy information is easy to find its the first set of links provided to you by Google or any other search engine.  When searching for information I found it easier to just look 4-5 pages into my search and find something that is handy and interesting instead of the really easy stuff at the first few pages.

"Practice Thinking about Sources"

To me when we think about sources it is the ability to know what you are looking for and how you can find it.  To find sources to need to know how to search for them and under what circumstance to use different methods to search.  When researching it is good to know the way around the desired search engine you will be using and how to use it.  To me research is all about how to learn and how to take that learning into context and use it in an educational way in a paper or in everyday life.
When you think about researching for information you have to know what different sites you have to use and how to use them.  Also you need to know the topic that you want to search and the cretin type of information about the subject that you want.  Once you find out that you can go to the site and search the information that you want.  After all that is done you have to go through the information given to you and find what you want.  A very well known and the most used site to search for information is http://www.google.com/

NFL

What would it be like if there is no NFL season???  We might find that out sooner then we though.  All season we have herd about a new collective bargaining agreement, this agreement will affect the fans most of all. Not just all NFL fans but those in cities like Green Bay, Jacksonville will hurt the most because they don't have any other professional teams.  The owners already share a 50-50 split of the 9 billion dollars that the NFL brings in but they ask for a additional billion dollars onto what the split is.  The two sides are also fighting over a rookie salary cap for next season. http://articles.philly.com/2011-02-11/sports/28350561_1_franchise-tag-nflpa-cba
With all this being said I can only think of a few places to look this up.  One was to go to Google and the other was NFL.com.  Each gave great amounts of information and much of the information was helpful some was not.  it was interesting to hear that like everything else in the professional world it revolves around money and that's it.    Have the players really forgotten what playing is all about??? Shouldn't it all be fun?

Web Sites

My favorite website would have to be Google.  Whenever I need to find out information I always use Google because it is my home page and I always find myself looking there for other sites to go to for different information about certain things like sports, video links to YouTube or Google video, and I also tend to look for research information about things I tend to write about.  Usually if I can’t find something I will go to Google and it will be there and it won’t take me a long time to find it.  http://google.com

topic 1

According to Michel Foucault an "author" constitutes the privileged moment of individualization in the history of ideas, knowledge, literature, philosophy, and the sciences. He goes on to say that even today, when we reconstruct the history of a concept, literary genre, or school of philosophy, such categories seem relatively weak, secondary, and superimposed scansions in comparison with the solid and fundamental unit of the author and the work.  http://www.generation-online.org/p/fp_foucault12.htm
To me an author is someone who represents what information is and how it is kept over time.  Without an author we have no way to document anything that has happened over time.  it is very important to our future and from our past that people have recorded information and continue to do so.

star Trek or Star Wars????

How will you decide which to watch?  Star Trek or Star Wars?  A question that many have asked themselves.  First off let me say that the Star Trek movies came around as a result of Star Wars.  After star wars cam out the creators of star trek said hey we have something like that.  However they really never planned on the Star Trek movies to become so big.  In a interview Leonard Nimoy who played Spock said “After every movie was done the tore down the sets or sold them because they didn’t know if another movie would happen.  Then they had to build the exact set again for the next one.”
Now when you think about it Star Trek fans are called Trekkies.  First off what is a Trekkie and how is it different from a Star Wars fan?  According to http://www.squidoo.com/startrek-vs-starwars  Trekkies are often fans of using great restraint when possible and overwhelming in nature. Most of the aliens they meet look vaguely like humans who had a bad experience with a wax factory, and fans of Star Wars are gluttons for sci-fi punishment. They either love being the all-powerful evil being or the scrappy underdog. Trekkies are rarely underdogs. Star Wars aliens seem to have either scales or fur and are also roughly humanoid in nature.
The choice is up to you.  http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2009/08/great-geek-debates-star-trek-vs-star-wars/  has a good article that tells about both when breaking it down. As for me I choose both.
